caBIG®: Informatics

Challenge

The cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid is the National Cancer
Institute’s pioneering initiative to create a virtual network of interconnected data, individuals and organizations that redefines how research is conducted, care is provide, and patients/participants interact with the biomedical research enterprise. caBIG® was at least a decade ahead of its time, and few could understand it.

Approach

Since 2004, FKH has served the National Cancer Institute by helping to build the community that could transform cancer with the use of information technology. We have worked with NCI leadership to engage thought leaders nationally and internationally, position and brand caBIG®, develop and produce its website, create its collateral, plan and execute its national meetings, write its documents of record, track its successes in an e-newsletter, and make it accessible to researchers around the globe. Most recently, we have created a user-friendly portal where researchers can learn about and access caBIG® capabilities in “three clicks or less.”

Impact

caBIG® is well known as the largest U.S. national biomedical network, with thousands of community participants and adopters.

As part of our 25th anniversary, FKH is co-hosting the Turning the Tide Against Cancer conference with AACR and PMC. June 12, 2012 / Washington, D.C.
